EDLD 5306 Course Reflection

Reflections Summary
EDLD5306

When I first began this course my expectations were minimal. My only thought was “will I learn about some new technology which can be used in my classroom?” However, I envisioned learning about the technology and how to use those technologies. I was not aware of all the internships required for this program. The course met what my thought was, I have learned some new technology, and I am still working on learning how to use them. This first course has brought some issues to the forefront which I am not sure I will be able to overcome. With the help of Dr. Abernathy, I am moving forward under her assurance that the issues will be resolved.
I have learned some tools which can be used in my classroom but have not found any which could be used in the district in which I work. I was able to accomplish my assignments for this course but working on my internship rough draft was a challenge. My mentor is not in an administrative position to be of assistance on my internship. She is doing her best but this is totally out of her realm of expertise. The technology in our district is minimal and outdated by almost 10 years. What little technology we do have has major problems, which are still not being resolved, due to the fact there is no technology department or even a technology technician. Our technology problems are outsourced, which makes it difficult to be resolved.
This course and the articles I have read for this course has taught me that my knowledge of technology used in schools is lacking. I have learned how to use technology tools which I always thought was a nuisance in the classroom. I am learning how to use those tools to the advantage of learning instead of being a nuisance. My goal is to increase my knowledge to be a benefit to the district in which I am working.
